In 1944 - 1945, 61 Americans (soldiers / civilians) who died in Switzerland were buried in the Münsingen Cemetery. 1946 -1947 the fallen were exhumed and transferred to the USA, except for 15 who are buried today in the French Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial Cemetery in France. The American cemetery in Münsingen was closed in 1948. Today, a bronze plaque on the stone wall in the Münsingen cemetery commemorates this time.
