B-17 museum in utzenstorf

American World War II uniforms are on display in minimal space here. They’re joined by headgear, flight goggles, medals, photographs and various debris of American military aircraft which emergency landed or crashed in Switzerland during the Second World War: part of a steering wheel, a co-pilot seat, a propeller blade, a parachute, even an entire airplane engine and much more. American hits from the 40s are playing in the background.

smooth landing

Somewhat outside of Utzenstorf, the «Battlequeen Peg of my Heart» bomber carried out an emergency landing after having been hit badly flying over Germany. «We landed in the middle of a potato field and came to a halt in a field of beans.», radio operator Bill Carter noted down neatly in his diary. There’s more to be learned about this in a private tour at the museum in Utzenstorf.
