The legendary 6888th Postal Battalion

Filming has begun on the legendary World War II 6888th Postal Battalion. The 6888th Central Directory Postal Battalion was the only all-female, all-black battalion of World War II. The unit has received long overdue attention, the unit was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2022. The 855 women of the 6888th were sent to England in 1945 and given the seemingly impossible task of clearing a three-year backlog of mail for the troops. The unit eventually delivered 17 million pieces of mail to their rightful recipients. The detached battalion later deployed to France, where it made stops in Rouen and Paris. It operates as a self-contained unit with its own medics, military police, dining hall, transportation and administrative services. The unit's contribution to war support cannot be overstated. The 6888th created and adopted the motto that spurred them on every day, "No Post, Low Morale."  You don't know how important those letters were at a time when there was no easy access to international phone calls, let alone FaceTime, text messaging or social media.
