RAF Flying Officer George Stewart, Mosquito Pilot

George, congratulations on your 100th birthday, 1924 on January 14th, we wish you all the best, especially good health.

George Stewart, a Canadian, flew 50 missions with Squadron No. 23  between July and November 1944, all at the age of 19. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for this work, most of which involved day/night intruder operations. He followed an illustrious career as a pilot and instructor, and spent quite a bit of time in China, where he trained pilots on Mosquitos (which Mao Tse-Tung had bought from Canada)) to reduce the appalling number of pilots killed in accidents. Both his unsurpassable knowledge of flying the Mosquito and his unquenchable enthusiasm were of the utmost value to the People's Mosquito. George retired in 1987, after a 45-year career that had provided him with over 10,000 flight hours. In March 2003, George and his wife Marion were invited to Taiwan as guests of the Republic of China’s Air Force to commemorate the Mosquito flights he had flown with the Chinese Air Force in 1948.
