Uniform of EM1c Joseph Tennant US Navy, USS Monticello + USS Rolf, Atlantic + Pacific

Joseph Dean Tennant was born in Creston, Iowa, on May 28, 1915, and enlisted in the US Navy on February 18, 1942 (service number 321-10-21). He was assigned to the crew of USS Monticello (AP-61) on March 21 of the following year and transferred aboard USS Rolf (DE-362) on September 7, 1944. He was demobilized on 8 October 1945 with the rank of Electrician's Mate 1st Class and died on 23 August 1992.

Between 1942 and 1944, the troopship USS Monticello (AP-61) made several trips to North Africa, the China-Burma-India Theater, and the Pacific before transporting reinforcements to Europe beginning in June 1944 ; the ship was decommissioned on 22 March 1946. The escort destroyer USS Rolf (DE-362), launched on 7 September 1944, was deployed to the Pacific and participated in several submarine operations in the Philippines.
